John Dutton's long reign will soon come to a dramatic end. And Yellowstone star Kevin Costner has announced that he has finished the series.
The flagship show will complete its final season without him, but it won't continue beyond the Season 5 finale, with the hugely popular western already airing the first half of its fifth season in 2022.
Due to actor-network-producer tensions and the notable confluence of the 2023 WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, the remaining episodes have yet to be released.
As of May 3, 2023, the cast and crew still had no update on when the series would return to Montana to finish shooting the remainder of Season 5.
The Paramount Network announced that the farewell episodes were coming in November 2024, but Costner soon revealed via Instagram rails that he would not be attending.
Costner's exit will greatly affect the rest of the Yellowstone storyline. This has clearly put an end to the series and dashed the hopes of Season 6.
Here's what we know so far about the future of the franchise. The short answer is no. The long answer is: somewhat but not in name.
The end of Costner's tenure on Yellowstone doesn't mean the end of the Yellowstone saga, but the end of the Yellowstone series itself. The show is far ahead in the ratings.
